RTWalentina

I took part in the fashion show on Friday, Oct 30, 2009 in Ljubljana.

It was about the shoes from noranapetke.si, but I designed  clothes the models wore with those shoes. We had a really good time, despite all the torn stockings and broken zippers.

Ruby RED Slippers

Posted by: valentinavidovic on: August 1, 2009

Like I sad: I want colours…Yes! And I started with my favorite colour, especially this summer, RED. If you are reading my blog you should know whay RED is my favorite colour this summer. For those who don´t know: I was a winner of Are You The Next Best Thing In Fashion Design award on a International fashion festival Influence. My dress was in RED…I think I don´t need to say anything more.

I´m going to write about RED Shoes. Like every women I like shoes and I have a pair of RED shoes to. I feel magic when I´m wear them. Who doesn´t?
Throughout history and across a diversity of cultures, red shoes have made a special segnificante. RED heels were once worn to indicate status. When King Lousis XIV, in 17th-century, painted his heels in red, result was that  red high heels became a sign of nobility and could only be woren by approved members of the court. But the French weren´t alone in choosing RED to indicate status and wealth. From the ancient dynasties of China to the Pope´s red slippers in the Vatican, RED shoes have always been regarded as special. But why,  RED?  Well, originally it was a very expensive dye so you had to be wealthy to wear anything red.

Symbolically the colour RED represents life and fertility in European and Asian tradition, but it also has associations with danger, war, blood and death. RED is the colour of extremes of humanity, strong emotions, magic and religious experience. In Catholic Church priests wear RED vestments, but it is also the colour of red-light districts, charlet women and the Devil. The ambivalence between love and war, magic and religion, nobility and vulgarity, creates fundamental tensions in the use of this colour.

RED shoes assume complex symbolic power. Red shoes conjoin a highly charged colour and a form, for example high heel red shoes, that is not entirely innocent. High heel red shoes scream sex appeal and are powerful attraction on many man. If you want to be noticed, wear RED.

I some cases, RED equals the wrong kind of attention, and when paired with women has been seen as a mark of wantonness. This is a simplfied message in Hans Christian Andersen´s fairytale The RED Shoes and in the 1948 movie, with the same title, which lead actress and dancer Moira Shearer provide that slipping on a pair of RED shoes can lead to ruin. In both cases RED shoes make the women to dance. They can´t stop dancing and the shoes are stuck on there feet. RED shoes are symbolically the punishment. But in the 2000 in a film Chocolate, RED shoes were the massage, that the women who is wearing them is not afraid to display her sexuality. I think the most famous, the RED shoes we all know, are Ruby Red Slippers from a classic film The Wizard Of Oz. Dorothy closed her eyes, taps the heel of

her ruby RED slippers together three times, and says ´There is no place like home´, before being whisked back to her home. So in this case RED shoes are magical.

And my opinion is that now days the RED shoes are magical and we should wear them on a special days or just when we feel like it. You should have fun when you put on you Ruby RED Slippers and do not forget to style it up in your on way.

I want colours

Posted by: valentinavidovic on: June 3, 2009

Today, I was on my way home from work and I was sitting on the bus, I had nothing to read, so I started to observe people. What are they wearing, which colours did they combined…I almost started to scream I WANT COLOUR S!! I notice that Slovenian people don´t like colours. I come to the conclusion that must be written in our genes. Way? Because during the history we were slaves and slaves were wearing dark, boring colours. Bright, strong colours were allowed only for aristocratic family. But that is just my opinion, some historian my not agree with me.

Of course some use colour, but we are rare. Now you will say: I wear colours. We all wear them, but problem, which I see, is that you are wearing them in a shy way. Nature it has so many interesting colours and combinations. Leaves on the treetop are GREEN and cherries are RED. But will you mix RED and GREEN? Perhaps RED and BLUE? Probably not! Why not? Why would you not put on a nice red sweater and a very big green brooch? Well, I like contrast. And I always say that you must be brave whit colours. You want to wear blue today? Why not combined it whit some nice green, purple or yellow. Please don´t be all BLUE, BLUE sweater and BLUE accessories. On my opinion that is boring and can come out like you have no style.

Whit colours we can communicate. Colour choice it is not random, but it is arrange whit our feelings. It is not just a YELLOW dress that we choose this morning, it is shows to the world the way we feel. I going to write meaning of the colour and how they should be used.

BLUE is the dearest colour of most people. We are tying blue with distance and infinity. All things if we look at them from a distance become a little bluish. We are tying blue with longing, that why many times blue in Romanticism occurs as a symbol. Dark blue is used in a business world, it means that you are very stable, strong.

YELLOW is very positive colour it will put you to life…it is good to us it in free time. ORANGE it is very joyful and powerful colour. It is a symbol of maturity. It is all so very good to use it in free time

RED is very aggressive, violent, dynamic. But if you want to step up the red colour is for you. It is elegant colour and you can use it for a evening dress.

GREEN is a colour of life, spring, joy,…it is very peaceful. It is not very elegant colour.

PURPLE it is colour of mix emotions, because it is combination of red and blue, which are opposite colours. It is very strong, powerful and intelligent colour. Purple can be used in the day dress and evening dress.

BRAWN is not very popular colour. It was always used for people who are in lower class of society. It looks very sophisticated in a interior. It is not elegant colour and you should not use it for a evening dress.

GREY it is very dark and opaque colour. It is very boring and cheap looking. But it is very good for combinations whit other colours.

BLACK it is very negative colour, but it is very elegant and you can never go wrong whit it. It is very suitable for a evening dress. Every woman should have a Little black dress in her wardrobe. This is a dress, that whit suitable accessories, is wearable in every occasion.

WHITE is very positive colour. It is colour of lightness and purity. You can wear trough the day and the nigt.

Philosophy of fashion

Posted by: valentinavidovic on: April 18, 2009

I´m reading very intresting book about a fhilosophy in fashion and is going to be very usefull for my writting. So I´m going to write some interesting citations from this book.
It is interesting how is fashion one of the most influential phenomens in Western civilization since the Renaissance. And we can say that fashion has been virtually ignored by philosophers possibly because could hardly be a worth object of study for so ´profound´ a disscipline as philosophy. But there was some interesting lines written about it in the past. There are some texts from the fourteenth century about fashion or we could say there are describtions how ridiculous people look when they don attire that diverges from what is strictly functional. Right up until the 1980´s, when ´serious´studies of fashion had a tendency to express moral condemnation for their subject matter. All this has changed over the past couple of decades…

Philosopher Gilles Lipovetsky wrote: ´fashion is a specific form of social change, independent of any particular object; it is first and foremost a social mechanism characterized by a particulatly brif time span and by more or lass funciful shifts that enable it to effect guite diverse speres of collective life´ Lipovetsky gives us her a very broad description of fashion, one that precisely emphasizes that is a question of a general social mechanism and not just clothings. Others, however, link fashion exclusively to clothings.

My Lucky Red Shoes

We… modern people have a feeling that we are set free from blank religion, we don´t belive in higher forces. Well, we think we don´t. In this fast, to fast, world we lost our religious values… Our moral and spiritual traditions are lost and that why we are paying a price with a feeling of  absens minde and lonelines.

We are not awareded what we lost. Simbolic values of nature disappeared, we lost contact with nature.  If we look a little bit dipper in our selves there is still a primitive part somewhere in us, although we will not admite and belive in it. But some people do belive. Either we belive or not, every day we are standing infront of a mirror and looking for that right outfit. If it is an important day infront of us, we will look for a dress that we belive is bringing us luck, success, etc… In that way clothes becomes our fetish and we subordinate to it in other way we become the slaves of it. Our lucky clothes lay there in our wordrobe as a primitive goddnesses and waiting for there special opportunty to help us. About our lukcy shoes, lucky T-shirt or parheps a ring we talk very respectfully, we belive in them whithout any evidences. This objects give us moral support, they pour courage into us. Because of them we are more relaxed in a critical situations, because we belive that they are going to help us. Because of it we dare, so we get what we desire.

So, are you beliver? I thik there is always going to be a little bit of a primitiveness in us and that is not important in what we belive but is more important that we belive…

Good or bad…

Have you ever seen someone on a street, by your opinion wery funny dreseed? Did you ever say: what was hi thinking this morning, to put that dress on…

First I have to say: who are you to judge?  There are not a lot of people who are allowed to judge, but there are few that can, beacuse of there profession by which they are allowed to say there opinion through there work.

Fashion is made for  all people and is not interested in individuals. It is up to us to make our on style, to find something in fashionable clothings that is flattering to us and somthing that we feel good in.  Often happens, that we choose incorrect outfit for us and because of that, it comes to a conflict between body and soul. It is all so true that opposings  between body and soul are noticed by fewer people, those people are the one who know a lot about life. Usualy that happens to people who are working with nature, tradition or art also known as artistic people. This people look a little strange in there clothings and as well people who are in there genes conected to the artists but they are doing something else (politics, managers,…)

But when we  choose incorrect clothings for us, we feel insecure, we have thet feeling that nobody had notice us…But you must understand that all the insecurety does not come from the dress that we are wearing, it is in us. And that is not importante if our body is  build harmoniously or not. It is not importante how expensive is the dress. It is all about how we wear the dress. We have to take the clothings for our companions of everyday life. To be good dressed we have to prepare our self to experience esthetics and to choose clothings that are considering our true needs.  Not every day we are going to be noticed, but good image and style are going to stay in a memory of a person who has the eyes to observer.

If you don´t have your own shine, shine of  others can not replace it. (Boetije)
